TOPIC: Taxation Objections Process

Laura and Daniel will be presenting on the taxation objections process, particularly in the context of the small and medium market objections in which they currently have involvement. They will also discuss alternative dispute resolution with the ATO, both in the objections context and more broadly. In presenting on the objections process they will provide tips on what steps representatives and taxpayers can take to assist the ATO to reach the best outcome as quickly as possible.

SPEAKER: Laura Banco | Director in Objections and Review | ATO

Laura has over 16 years’ experience in tax administration across the dispute resolution landscape.  These roles include as a Litigator in Federal Court and Administrative Appeals Tribunal matters, Secretariat of the Test Case Litigation Program, leading and design of the ATO’s alternative dispute resolution services and in her current role, leading teams to resolve Objections in the Individuals and Small business market. Currently, Laura is leading the Objections and Review response to Operation Protego. Laura has also worked as a Litigator for Her Majesty’s Review and Customs in the UK.

Laura holds a Bachelor of Business (Marketing) and Bachelor of Laws (UWS), Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (The College of Law) and Graduate Certificate in Business – Public Sector Management (QUT). She is also trained in LEADR Mediation and CINERGY Conflict Management. Laura is admitted and holds a practising certificate as a Solicitor in the NSW Supreme Court.

SPEAKER: Daniel Nesci | Director in Objections and Review | ATO

Daniel has over 14 years’ experience in tax administration roles. His roles for the Commissioner include as a Litigator in Federal Court and Administrative Appeals Tribunal matters and as an Auditor and Technical Advisor in Integrated Compliance. In his current role he leads the Sydney based team that considers objections in the Integrated Compliance and Private Wealth markets.

Daniel holds a Bachelor of Science (USYD), Diploma in Law (LPAB) and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (The College of Law). Daniel is admitted and holds a practising certificate as a Solicitor in the NSW Supreme Court.

Continuing Professional Development Point (CPD Point)

  • This event will account for up to a maximum of one (1) CPD Point per session.
  • A completion certificate will be issued via LMS after the event for attendances who check in with our staff and you have attended the session for more than thirty-five (35) minutes. We are unable to issue a certificate unless we have a record of your attendance.
  • Attendance records will be provided to CPA Australia, however, it is up to you to update your own CPD records/CPD Diary. We cannot update the same for you.
  • You may wish to update your profile with us to include your CPA Membership number which we will report to CPA Australia accordingly.
  • You should only claim for the attended hours only.
